Bangkok Temples
The Chapel of Emerald Buddha in Incoming complex of the Royal Palace. This temple was the personal temple of the King. Now it is open to the visitors throughout the world and is well known that there is a unique statue of the Buddha, carved from a single piece of jadeite. It is an object of national pride for the Thais. The most outstanding statue represents a man sitting on a golden altar of Buddha in the classic pose.

Wat Benchamaborit. This temple is also known as the Marble Temple. Wat Benchamaborit was designed by the son of Rama IV and built in the reign of Rama V in the second half of the XIX century. As the main building material Italian marble was used. The building combines both Thai and European features. In the courtyard of the walls there is a line of bronze sculptures of Buddha, and dug a channel there are a few turtles, symbols of longevity.

Wat Arun. Located on the west bank of the Chao Phraya river temple is famous because of the 79-meter pagoda decorated with colorful ceramic tiles and porcelain. This looks more like a Ayuttayan buildings rather than the more recent Bangkok, because in the past they often used to cover the gold plate. After the fall of Ayutthaya the capital for a short time was moved to the city Tonburi (now a suburb, but in fact still part of Bangkok). Here and in the reign of King Thaksin (end of XVIII century) in Tonburi and was built Wat Arun, and used as his personal shrine. Wat Arun in the translation from the Thai means “Temple of Dawn”. The best time to have a look at the temple is in evening. The most beautiful view of the temple is at sunset from the opposite bank of the river.

Wat Trai Mit is the famous Golden Buddha of SukoThai period. This statue of Buddha is made of pure gold. The sculpture itself is about 3 meters high and has 5, 5 tons of weight. The statue was discovered by an accident, when deemed to be a ceramic image of Buddha disintegrated, and beneath it found that golden statue. Most likely the golden statue was hidden under a layer of clay, during the Burmese invasion of Ayutthaya shaken. Due to the high quality of the material the statue keeps up its high cost.

At Wat Pho is a giant statue of the Reclining Buddha (46 meters in length, 15 – in width), decorated with seashells. This temple is considered to be the first university in Thailand. As an evidence of that there are wall paintings, manuscripts and statues, telling about military affairs, astronomy, geology, archeology, meditation and Thai traditional massage. This means that we can name Thai traditional massage as one of the main traditional subjects. Wat Pho is located near the Royal Palace, the entrance fee here is 20 Butt.

Wat Suthat located in the heart of the city on Bamrung Muang Rd. Its construction lasted for 27 years, but it is known because of the city wall of the XIX century. The temple itself hosts a good collection of gold Buddhas and a number of huge number of shops with a huge selection of Buddha images, rosaries and other things related to Buddhism. The first thing that attracts tourists to the Wat Saket is the so-called “Gold Mountain”. Gore is an artificial hill, built in the early XIX century, on top of which there is a golden pagoda. Now the golden mountain is one of the most visited attractions in Bangkok, possibly due to the fact that its peak offers a panoramic view of the old city of Bangkok.
