Ayutthaya had a dominant position in the region for 400 years. The city was officially founded in 1350 BC by King Ramathibodi I, although the decision to build the city was made much earlier. During its heyday Ayutthaya was a powerful city-state, actively trading with China, Holland and France. Rulers managed to create a city with magnificent monasteries, canals and monuments, which have successfully endures the comparison with the major cities of Europe of the time.
However, the city had a powerful contender in nearby Burma and there were persistent wars. In 1569 the city was captured by the King of Burma, after which the independence was restored only after a decade. The struggle for independence was led by Prince Naresuan, who became a military hero in Thailand later. However, the future held unenviable fate for the city: it existed until 1767, after which it was completely destroyed by the Burmese. King Rama I chose Bangkok as the capital of the country, while Ayutthaya was never able to recover from defeat.
Light shows, concerts, traditional beliefs and various exhibitions are held annually as part of the fair. It should be noted that tourists will be able to see an exciting presentation of Thai arts and culture, and be part of cultural events.
